What Is It?
Fasting Diets
A low-calorie diet, with the aid of FDA-approved appetite suppressants and some easy-to-learn “lifestyle changes,” can make your weight loss journey quick but, more importantly, sustainable.
Do Fasting Diets Work?
A calorie deficit is required for weight loss. This means you need to burn more calories than you consume. For many years, it was believed that a decrease of 3,500 calories per week would result in 1 lb.
The diet usually replaces normal food with low-calorie shakes, soups, bars, or porridge-containing milk.
Very low-calorie diets are for adults who are obese and severely obese, defined as having a BMI over 30 and 40 and needing to lose weight quickly. They are not the first option to manage obesity and should not be routinely used.
Fasting diets should only be followed under medical supervision for 12 weeks. Do not follow a very low-calorie diet unless a GP has suggested it to you.
